I think the ps3 60gb is a truly amazing console and in my view is the best console ever released. It is well worth its money dispite it being expensive the online gaming is fantastic plus its free, the amount of things you can do with this console you can use the internet browser and go on almost any website play music play videos download demos free from the store, by games free from the store or pay for them as you wish. Big thumbs up from me Pixmania customer Good points: very powerful and offers a range of things to do. easy to use and excellent graphics on the games Bad points: not too many titles out yet which make you want to buy the console. Woolworths customer Good points: Awsome game play and very reliable console Bad points: not a wide range of games yet espically for women and in time im sure they will make the console a little smaller Woolworths customer Good points: Blu-ray disc player built in, wireless networking straight out of the box and 60GB hard drive without having to make any additional purchases unlike xbox 360. Memory stick slots make transfer of music, photos and game saves very easy. One of the best things of all however, is free internet access. Bad points: Very bulky and not very easy to carry to another room in the house, also, updates that need to be installed each month before signing in to the internet are also a problem, especially as it takes quite a while to download them. Woolworths customer Good points: Design is good - looks much better than the PS2. Graphics are excellent. Bad points: My son is eight and there are very few games available for him. I assumed that the PS3 would be compatible with most of his games but none of them are although there is a facility to download upgrades from the internet but this is time-consuming particularly for a child that just wants to be able to play his old games. A CD is available from the makers which we have requested but when it comes - if it does come - then perhaps I will judge the PS3 more favourably. Woolworths customer Good points: Looks good. Brilliant graphics. Love the motion sensor. Bad points: Not many games on release - no football games at all. Bit pricey. Woolworths customer First off, I don't agree with a lot of peoples comparisons between the PS3 and 360. The 360 has been out a good year longer so off course there are more games for it. Within the next 6 months we are really going to see what the PS3 can do, and its looking impressive to say the least. The 360 is a great system and so is the PS3, both consoles have a great line up of exclusives coming out soon. The PS3 is more reliable than the 360, no question. The built in Blu ray player is the icing on the cake. PS3 or 360??? Get them both! in what order is up to you :) Play customer I'm totally in love with my PS3..... its has absolutely everything I ever wanted in a console! I also bought a 32" Samsung HDTV and I gotta say games and movies looks AWESOME on it! I don't understand why people are complaining about it not having many games!!!! So many games are out now and in the up coming month there are going to be even more! I have agree the price is way too high, but it has so many features including the Blu-ray..... And you know how the prices of the Blu-ray players are high...... So give the PS3 a break and enjoy it because its such a wonderful technology! Play customer no . just no . get a 360 i am lucky or unlucky enough to own both a ps3 and a 360 and when i started to compare the consoles i had a open mind to which was better . i dont care weather sony or microsoft win i care which is just better, however the main reason for my buying a ps3 was so i could watch blue rays not for games... this console is a let down beyond recognition, the game line up is absolute crap. resistance is there best current game and its more last gen that black for god sake. the xbox is more powerful it offers better graphics its alot cheaper online marketplace is not evan tp be mentioned its shows sony up that much dont come to me calliong me a ideot im not bias i dont care what company wins i care which is better and by fact not opinion FACT the xbox offers way more however i can watch 1080p movies now i have a BLUE RAY PLAYER the console is rubbish blue ray is good but not for the standard audience .. buy a xbox 360 Play customer The PS3 is basically a PS2 with a little more juice. People who are saying that the PS3 has more power than the 360, you are wrong, game developers have said that the 360 has more power than the PS3. The PS3 is just not in the same league as the 360, poor assortment of games, online isn't even worth mentioning, and the price...i mean come on Sony. Play customer I have had my PS3 since early April, and do not regret buying it for a second! I was suprised by how well-made the console feels, how well it shifts heat away from itself, and especially by how superbly the controllers work. The machine is amazingly good looking, and just has a typical 'Sony' aura about it. Having the bluetooth controllers means there's no delay at all, you can use 7 at the same time and they don't interfere with anything else (wireless keyboards/mice). Another nice thing is being able to completely operate the console from the controller, without even having to touch the console at all.
The online features of the console are often overlooked. There is the Playstation Store, where you can download mini-games, addons for your existing games, and free game demos and videos. There is also the buddy system which gives you access to all your buddies in a simple to use list, which also lets you know which game they are playing, so you can join them straight away! All this at no additional monthly cost! The Playstation 3 also has easy to set up Wi-Fi built in that picks up a good reception easily. At the moment, as you'll find most people saying (except the PS3 fanboys), the Graphics on the Xbox360 and Playstation 3 are virtually identical. This may seem like it makes the PS3 a bad choice to buy, but you have to think about what the future holds. For a start, the Xbox 360 won't last you as long because they are notorious for going wrong (I know PS3's aren't perfect, but they're definitely better). Also, the PS3 is significantly faster, but the CPU is different to almost anything around today, and it's going to take the developers a bit of time to get used to harnessing its full power.
The Blu Ray playback is superb, especially with the Blu-Ray remote control, so nothing much to comment about there. The music playback is decent, and you can easily rip tracks straight to the included hard drive with no problem at all! That's my rambly two cents on the PS3, but I'd definitely recommend it to anyone. Gonna be the most future proof console in my opinion! Play customer Ok so most of these reviews are just 360 bashin but ive had mine since launch and guess what no problems and with quite alot of exclusives coming to 360 you can't really diss it. And finally to ps3 i got mine just over a week ago and it's impresive i mostly use it for ps2 and ps1 games until i get some more games for it i gave it 4 stars for lack of games i got harry potter free and lets just say i was p!!!ed right off Play customer The main reason the PS3 is better than the xbox 360 is the xbox 360's don't last very long if they last atall, many people have complained to microsoft that their xbox 360's stopped working because they are not made to last more than a year if your lucky and what is the point of getting a product which don't work, that is why the PS3 cost more aswell as having blueray and other things that the xbox hasn't got. and PS3 are better offcorse. Play customer The Playstation 3 is undeniably a powerful piece of kit. It has many fantastic and impressive features. I will however probably be very unpopular on here for my opinion, however I defy anyone to do their research and provide a sensible counter-argument. The graphically quality between the xbox 360 and the ps3 has thus far been virtually identical in the released games.
However in most cases the xbox 360 is etched out the ps3's performance, in fact this is even more impressive as the ps3 titles have in most cases had significantly longer development periods. Most people haven't taken the time to research this but even though the ps3 was released long after the xbox 360 - sony released development kits at a similar time, the console was just massively delayed. This means that while xbox 360 is now on its second/third generation titles ps3 games should be at an almost identical period of development.
People could argue that companies wouldn't start development on their newest games until the first lot were launched, meaning that the ps3's second and third generation titles would have a lapse period before development started, but this simply isn't true, companies are usually overlapping game development but several generations even within a single game license (for example a company may working on games 2,3 and 4 all at once for a particular brand) Many companies have also made significant complaints against the ps3, insisting that it is flawed and difficult to develop for. This is not a fan boy lie, the information direct from developers is out there - just check for yourself. I believed that the ps3 will actually eventually weigh in as significantly more powerful than the xbox 360, in terms of specifications at least it has a fair lead.
However the technology is badly prepared for developers, this means that it will take time before the titles on the ps3 will actually reflect the superior technologies. In other words, although ps3 is more powerful for the next couple of years most xbox 360 titles will be released faster and look and play better, however companies that figure the hardware better will release games that easily surpass the xbox 360's best. These titles will be rare. Ultimately the differences between the ps3 and xbox360 in terms of power are cosmetic, they are fundamentally flawed. It makes little difference to a gamer if there is a game out there that looks slightly better than the one he's playing now, who actually cares when the differences are so minor? The real imporant difference between the consoles is a simple and obvious as can be - software choice and price. They are very, very important to the middle-market (non-fan boys) and to be fair the vast majority of people fall into this category.
The xbox 360 is far cheaper with far more choice, fact. Non only does the xbox 360 have far more games available - and they're mostly better - but these games have been on the market for a longer-period so they are far cheaper. I could buy a ps3 and a mediocre game that has just been released for the same price as a xbox 360 and about 8 pretty decent games for the same price. Its just a numbers game. Anyway love it or hate that's my review.
The ps3 is extremely proficient in its own rights and is well worth owning. However the xbox 360 slightly outmatches in a number of ways that count whereas the ps3's advantages feel and seem far more superficial. Other issues to be thought off before a purchase include Sony's abysmal treatment of customer care, and how Sony seems to hate early adopters, the wii also offers a unique experience - I have reviewed it separately. Remember though the xbox 360, albeit far better than ps3, is also not without is many flaws! Play customer i bought one of these, instead of a xbox360, and its a great piece of kit, with a HD telly all they games play razor sharp, i registered mine online with the playstation network and got a free blu ray film. its early days yeat. but its one awsome console, and hopefully game devs will take advantage of the larger amount space offered on the blu-ray disks. Play customer This is a mammoth of a console. It absolutley ROCKS! I have all 3 next gen consoles and have to say this is the best of the lot. The wii is fun but its really only for children or those that want a fun way to exercise, very original games out for it but the graphics really don't do it for me and get bored with it very fast. Also the games that are out for it are TOO easy to get really into them, the only really good game out for it at the moment is Zelda. The 360 is a great console with great games out for it but the only reason to buy this console now is for Halo 3. But the problem with the 360 is that it is too loud, it over heats and breaks too easily. I am on my third xbox and it freezes on me sometimes which I hate when playing a game. Also this console doesn't have HDMI connector which is really needed if u want the full graphics of your console.
You have to buy the HD-DVD seperately (And atm Blu-Ray is WAY ahead of HD-DVD so its likely it may get discontinued in the next year or 2) and xbox will not be using the HD-DVDs to play any of their future games. Now to the PS3, it has a Built in Blu-ray dvd player, it has exclusives like Final Fantasy XIII, Metal Gear solid, Home, Little Big Planet, Lair and even more over the next couple of years.
Playstation have commited 10 years onto their PS3 so that it will keep on making games for it for that time. When you play a new game you have the chance to install so thats the game can run more smoothly on the console. You can connect your PSP (If you have one) to it. So save your trouble and get a PS3, it will save you money in the long run. Play customer Don’t pay any attention to Microsoft or Nintendo fanboys - Sony’s Playstation 3 is the best console on the market! not many games around at the moment, but check out whats to come (MGS4, Lair, Haze, Killzone 2 etc..) Its FREE to play online (unlike your Xbox 360), is HDMI compatible, can play dvds and blu-ray discs, most PS2 games are also now playable on the PS3. PS3 games and most blu-rays are not region coded (that means you can play imported games and movies), but the console will not play imported dvds or PSone and PS2 games though. Price maybe off putting for some, but at the end of the day - you get what you pay for! Gameseek customer the same as the xbox 360 i have all 3 nex gen consoles and i think the ps3 is the worst of them. the graphics are the same as the 360 maybe worse and not as fun as the wii. its overpriced for what it is. i only got it mainly for the blu-ray. the only good games for it are resistance and fullauto, which i prefer my gear of war too resistance and test drive to fullauto. if you have not bought a console yet i recommend to buy a 360 because you can buy it with 5 top games for the price of the ps3. Also theres a new 360 called the Elite which has 120gb and is black for under £300. buy it Gameseek customer The only review you’ll read without a certain Microsoft console being mentioned!! The Playstaton 3, is a massive leap forward from the PS2. The games feature photo-realistic graphics (check out the excellent ’MotorStorm’), and almost all of them have an online multiplayer option, and the games (not the console) are Region free! (so no more waiting for months on end for your favourite game to be released in the U.K!). Future releases to look out for include ’Metal Gear Solid 4’, ’Resident Evil 5’, ’Lair’, ’Army of Two’, ’Killzone 2’, ’Little Big planet’,’******in’s Creed’, ’Fatal Inertia’, and of course the next ’Grand Theft Auto’ installment.
Some excellent games can be downloaded through the Playstation Store, at a very reasonible price too- ’Blast Factor’, ’Super Rub-a-Dub’ and ’flOw’ are highly recommended, and make full use of the innovative Sixaxis pad. You can store 1000’s of photos, and music on to the 60GB harddrive, and play all your (region 2 and 4) dvd’s, and Blu-Ray discs. The wireless sixaxis pad, can be re-charged by simply connecting it via USB lead to the console. The PS3’s firmware can be updateed either by broadband connecton, or through a game disc.
The only negative points - Only selected PSone and PS2 games will work (although this will continually be sorted out by the firmware updates), and of course the hefty price tag. Don’t bother waiting for a cheaper (and inferior) 20GB version though, because it wont be happening, as Sony have discontinued it in the U.S. Gameseek customer No difference with XBox 360 (so far) like a lot of UK gamers I couldn’t wait and bought a Japanese one (works perfectly with no power supply issues by the way). Basically it works just like a big PSP with the menu setup etc. So far though I really don’t see the slightest difference in quality to the 360, although to be honest I’ve only played ’Resistence’ so far (absolutely fantastic game by the way - set in the UK too).
I guess the XBox360 games have got better and better since it first came out and developers have got more experienced at squeezing the best out of the system so it’s possible the same will happen with the PS3 over time? It is a great console without a doubt but don’t expect a totally new gaming experience if you’ve already got a 360 - specially considering it’s twice the price of the Microsoft machine!!
So my advice if you haven’t got either console is to buy the XBox360 and spend the money you save on 5 or 6 new games to go with it. That ’Resistance’ game is awsome though - best game I’ve played for ages. One final point - the first PS3 I got froze up after just 2 weeks! Lucky for me the guy I bought it off exchanged it or else I’d have been out over £500... Gameseek customer I love games, and thoroughly enjoy them but, like most people, I live on a budget. I picked this up, and I have to say it's a very solid package but (another but) there is something I feel I must share with fellow gamers... Why bother? After much thought, I spend (after games and add-ons etc) nigh on £600 for a fancy box and new bit of plastic which, to be honest, does very little more for me than my previous consoles. Yep, the games definitely look more sparkly, but are they any more enjoyable than my PS2 ones? Not enough to warrant these prices. If you love games, I really wouldn't bother just yet; you'd be wasting your money. Go and buy a whole heap of games for your older system until the price is reduced significantly (sub £250). There are more than enough games on the older systems for now. It just can't justify the price. Nor can I. Until significantly reduced, this is one for the techno geeks, but not for people who just enjoy the games. Amazon customer seriously guys the PS3 is gonna be THE console soon enough admitedly the games out in the uk at the moment arent enough to tempt me but im living in Japan at the moment and the games that are out here already and the games that will be coming out are phenomenal. Keep your eyes open for Devil May Cry 4 and Bladestorm incredible graphics seriously guys the PS3 is gonna be THE console soon enough admitedly the games out in the uk at the moment arent enough to tempt me but im living in Japan at the moment and the games that are out here already and the games that will be coming out are phenomenal. Keep your eyes open for Devil May Cry 4 and Bladestorm incredible graphics Amazon customer PS3 is good for something, it has a Blu ray player. That is the only thing I could think of to recommend this product. I bought a PS3 being an ardent fan of the PS2, however, I was massively disappointed. I used it once or twice and I found that the games were OK, nothing more, nothing less. Resistance is hugely overrated when compared to other games such as Gears of War even last gen Halo 2! However the turning point in my opinion of the PS3 was when a relative bought me a Nintendo WII! It is drastically better than the PS3 and a fraction of the price! The PS3 lacks innovation and the so called "motion sensors" are a cheap rehash of the Wii. For example, resistance is branded as using the motion sensor in a revolutionary way even though the main use is to wiggle the controller sporadically. The Wii has cheaper and more varied games, which also immerse you in the game. Ask the opinion of other Wii and PS3 owners and you will not be surprised by what they say. Amazon customer What can I say. The PS3 is really one great system with so many features it's almost like your complete home entertaiment system in one very sleek black box.The PS3 is quite expensive if you're thinking it's just console to play games on but it's not. Sony wouldn't put the price to an average of £400 for their new console if it really wasn't worth it. And people, it really is. Just browse through a full online guide to what the PS3 has to offer and think about the capabilities of the machine. It's really quite immense. Just using it, you can feel that you're operating a fantastic piece of technology. The potential for the PS3 is what it's all about right now. Most people are aware there are a few complaints and issues and I'll give my own point of view on those below. Games - So there aren't any killer titles for the PS3. It's true. But there will be and we musn't forget that for starters.
Don't forget that the PS3 is not like the PS2. It's capable of much more magical things than that and games are going to take alot longer to make because they're going to be a hell of alot better. In defence of the PS3 current games though, I will say that Virtua Tennis 3, Motorstorm and Oblivion are fantastic games and are fantastic in all their next-generation glory when it comes to how they look and feel. But I'll admit they're never going to become classics. I think when we get titles like GTA4 and Assassins Creed we'll really start to see how great the PS3 can handle really good games. And with exclusive games for the PS3 like Little Big Planet, that's when it'll really start to shape into more of a great games console than it is now. Playstation Network - I'll admit it, PSN is really quite boring and empty and rather pointless at the moment. You sign up to the network which allows you access to Playstation Sore. You'll spot a few downloadable demos for free, a few videos and trailers and nothing much else.
Considering I got 3 free demos with Playstation magazine this month Playstation Store is not really a place I want to go shopping. However, what PS3 users are really waiting for is the much anticipated Home. Home is going to be really quite something. I think the possibilities are endless and the commercial feel of it which has the same appeal as YouTube profiles and MySpace pages is going to be a instant hit. A virtual world we can all meet each other and dress our virtual avatars up and deck out our appartments is really quite cool and when it expands and offers previews and downloads it'll become pretty exciting. For meeting other games online to play with you it's going to be fantastic. Blu-ray - I'm not really into the whole Blu-ray/HD-DVD battle and hate when people fight over it.
I think we should really just enjoy Blu-ray for it's potential and enjoy technology that is ground-breaking or potentially ground-breaking. The price of Blu-ray players is just silly so having one in the PS3 with everything else is really something you cannot complain about. A free copy of Casino Royale on Blu-ray for new accounts of the PSNetwork is a really nice touch too. HDTV - Another problem for some people. If you don't have an HD Ready Television then you're not really going to get the full potential out of the games and their awesome graphics.
You'll notice a huge difference on the PS3 compared to your PS2 as it is that much more powerful but it's not quite as superior as the upgrade from Standard-Def TV to High-Def. Getting your HD TV that suits you and what you can afford is a whole other issue but even without it, you an enjoy the PS3 games for being something really quite remarkable and wait for a HDTV if you must.
Updating - Updates are regular and you do need to do them. But they're easy and I don't find them too much of a problem although I know some PS3 users moan about it. But updates are keeping things working smoothly and offering new things, we can't complain about that. Think back to the PS2 days and how cool the thought of a HDD and downloadable content for your console would be in the future.
Once you update you'll be able to play your PS2 games. And I have found that there is a difference in graphics with the updates helping to upscale the PS2 games graphics to HD. Some more than others but your PS2 games should run like a dream on the PS3 and somehow manage to appear that much different on the PS3 which is great if you fancy some PS3 re-play.
Overall. I'll never regret getting the PS3 and I am so looking forward to the future as I know it's going to be something amazing. Remembering how games looked on the PS2 when it was first released and how they look now that it's coming to it's end says something about what we'll be seeing on the PS3 in a few years. With such photo-realistic graphics in the new games for the PS3 now if they get that much better we'll one day be forgetting we're playing a game altogether. Amazon customer
